What We do

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that uses mechanical advantage and leverage either to even the playing field or overwhelm larger and stronger opponents. We focus on using our grips (grip fighting), body posture and position to limit our opponents options and keep ourselves safe and in control of the situation.

We actively compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Competitions are a lot of fun and a great way to be a part of the wider Jiu-Jitsu community and make friends around the state, country and world. It’s also a great tool to help you improve your Jiu-Jitsu and teach you how to stay calm under pressure.

Self defense is another huge part of what we do. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and we teach students about the risk factors of physical conflict and how to minimise them. We focus on controlling a situation immediately by dominating the grips and body position. Our self defense incorporates a lot of Judo (a close relation to BJJ) and Wrestling techniques as well as applying pressure and control through joint locks. People are often surprised about the amount of pressure that can be applied by a skilled practitioner.

Of course we always aim above all to make sure we're always having fun. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to make friends, improve fitness and learn a new set of skills. You can be sure everyone at the club will welcome you to training and help you to get the most out of your sessions, we’re all there to help each other!
